Find My Device app gets a fresh look with location previews and a new ‘People’ Tab
The Find My Device app just got a big update with version 3.1.277, rolling out slowly to users. This update brings a simpler two-tab design, a new way to share your location, and some handy upgrades to how it tracks devices and tags.
One of the coolest additions is the “People” tab, which Google teased earlier this week. This tab lets you see where others are using Google Maps location sharing and share your own spot with them—either through a link or right in the app with a Google account. It’s still labeled “beta,” even though Maps has had this feature for a while. Plus, it helps set up location sharing on new devices by letting you pick which one shows your location.
The update also shakes up the “Devices” tab. Now, your list of gadgets and trackers sits at the bottom of the screen while a map preview pops up at the top. This makes it way easier to use since it starts tracking right when you open the app. If you’ve used Apple’s Find My app, this layout might feel familiar. One downside? You still can’t rearrange your device list, so it always starts with whatever’s at the top.
A small but super useful tweak is that the app now shows your current location on the map while you’re tracking another device or tag. Before, it only showed the item you were looking for, which could make it tricky to figure out how close you were to it.
Note: The maps in our screenshots are blank because of a weak Internet signal. The Find My Device v3.1.277 update isn’t everywhere yet, but it’s one of the biggest changes we’ve seen since Google launched the FMD network last year. With a cleaner look, better previews, and smarter location features, it’s making life easier for anyone trying to keep tabs on their stuff—or their friends!
