Google rolls out first beta of Android 16 QPR1 for Pixel phones
Google has officially launched the first beta version of Android 16 QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release 1) for Pixel devices. This update comes just a week after Android 16 Beta 2, showing Google’s steady push toward future Android versions.
QPR1 is part of Google’s regular Pixel Feature Drop cycle, which means it brings behind-the-scenes improvements and bug fixes that are tested in advance. While Android 16 is still being shaped for its full release, QPR1 starts a new testing phase aimed at enhancing user experience on Pixel phones.
The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update is available for several Pixel devices, including:
-
Pixel 5a
-
Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
-
Pixel 6a
-
Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
-
Pixel 7a
-
Pixel Fold
-
Pixel Tablet
-
Pixel 8 and 8 Pro
-
Pixel 8a
People already in the Android Beta Program with a compatible device will get the update automatically. Others can join the program by visiting google.com/android/beta and enrolling their device.
This QPR1 release is mainly focused on testing system performance, fixing known issues, and ensuring stability before Pixel Feature Drops go live later this year. It’s not packed with new features yet, but it lays the foundation for future improvements.
Developers and advanced users who want early access can now explore this version, while regular users may want to wait for the official release to avoid potential bugs.
