Google Photos gets a new design while Google Veo stuns with lifelike videos
Google is rolling out a new look for its Photos app, giving it a fresh Material You design based on the latest Material 3 style. The app now features a cleaner layout with bolder buttons, rounded edges, and more color that changes based on your theme. You’ll notice these changes in key areas like the sharing tab, search bar, and menus, making everything easier to see and use.
Another big change is the bottom bar, which now includes five main sections: Photos, Memories, Sharing, Library, and Search. Some buttons, like the “Select” and “Cast” options, have moved to different spots. Though these changes aren’t live for everyone yet, they’re starting to show up in version 6.79 of the app.
While Photos gets a visual upgrade, Google also showcased its latest AI video tool called Veo at its I/O event. Veo can create full HD videos from just text prompts. Unlike older tools, Veo understands camera angles, lighting, and movement, producing clips that look nearly real.
Early videos made with Veo are impressively sharp and smooth. For example, a simple prompt like “a dragon flying over a city at sunset” can turn into a dramatic, cinematic video. However, the results are so realistic that they also raise concerns about misuse.
For now, Veo isn’t available to everyone—it’s being tested by a small group through Google’s VideoFX platform. Still, it shows how quickly AI-generated video is evolving, with both exciting and worrying possibilities ahead.
