Android 16 brings dual-sim upgrade, better DND control, and new app bug
Google is rolling out Android 16 with a few interesting updates and a frustrating bug. Let’s break down what’s new.
First, for people using dual-SIM phones, Android 16 makes it easier to see signal strength. Now, instead of showing just one signal bar for both SIMs, the status bar shows two separate signal bars — one for each SIM card. This helps users quickly check if both connections are working well. It’s similar to how iPhones show dual-signal status.
Another change is coming to the Do Not Disturb (DND) feature. In Android 16, Google has removed the quick DND switch from the volume menu. In previous versions, you could tap the bell icon to turn on DND quickly, but now, that shortcut is gone. Users will have to use other methods, like Quick Settings or app settings, to turn on DND. This change might feel like a downgrade in convenience.
Lastly, there’s a bug affecting the Android 16 QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release 1) beta. Some users say that new apps they install don’t show up on the home screen. This happens especially when apps are installed from the Play Store. People have to find the apps manually in the app drawer and move them to the home screen themselves. It’s not clear yet how many devices are affected or when a fix will arrive.
So while Android 16 brings a few nice improvements, there are still a few wrinkles to iron out.
