Google reveals Microsoft’s Bing offer to Apple for joint search venture
In a newly unsealed filing, Google disclosed that Microsoft offered its Bing search engine to Apple in favor of a joint venture in 2018. Evidence clarifying web search advertising and the legality of agreements such as Google’s with Apple to be the default search of Safari revealed this interesting info.
Google through its filing revealed that Microsoft tried to sell its Bing search engine to Apple six times between 2009 and 2020. The company was approaching the iPhone maker to own Bing and make it the default search engine on its Safari web browser.

The search engine giant claimed (via CNBC) that Microsoft spent nearly $100 million on Bing over 20 years. It approached the iPhone maker in 2018, offering full ownership over Bing or creating a joint venture for the engine, instead of just becoming the default search.
The filing quotes Apple SVP of Services Eddy Cue assessing Bing, stating “Microsoft search quality, their investment in search, everything was not significant at all. And so everything was lower. So the search quality itself wasn’t as good.”

TSMC’s 2nm chip isn’t ready for the iPhone 17
Contrary to recent rumors, a reliable tech source says next year’s iPhone 17 won’t have the super-powerful chip some reports claimed. This chip, based on a new 2nm manufacturing process, isn’t expected to be ready for mass production until late 2025.
Apple‘s iPhone 17 will likely use a very good, but not the newest, chip (3nm process). This source has a history of being right about Apple’s plans, having predicted features like water resistance on the iPhone 7 and the different chips in the iPhone 14 lineup.
The super-powerful 2nm process chip might be in the iPhone 18, which comes after the iPhone 17. This chip would make the phone faster and more efficient. Even though the iPhone 17 won’t have the absolute latest chip, it should still be a very powerful phone.
The 2nm process, also known simply as “N2,” is expected to offer a 10 to 15% speed improvement at the same power or a 25 to 30% power reduction at the same speed compared to chips made with the TSMC’s 3nm technology.

Apple iPhone may get Google Gemini as third-party AI option
Apple partnered with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT into iOS 18. Meanwhile, Apple was also in touch with Google for its Gemini AI solution on the iPhone, which might be announced in the future.
According to a rumor, the Apple iPhone may get Google Gemini as another third-party AI option in the future. Neowin (via TheVerge) spotted that the Apple Intelligence program may add Google Gemini as Apple’s new partner.
The announcement might be done during the Fall of 2024. As a result, Apple will offer a set of three AI models to iPhone users including its own Siri, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Google’s Gemini.
As the AI segment is heavily booming, Apple doesn’t want to stay behind its rivals. The company is exploring ways and trying to extend its partnership with industry rivals to keep an edge in artificial intelligence on the iPhone.
Samsung is said to make some Galaxy AI features paid for by the next year. Similarly, there are rumors that the Cupertino-based company may have been considering add-on features on a paid basis.

Weird question marks appear in texts sent from iPhones to Android
A new issue is causing weird question marks to appear in texts sent from iPhones to Android devices. The issue seemingly arose because of texts resorting to the SMS protocol. While iPhones receive accurate messages, Android devices are getting weird question marks in texts.
The question mark problem in texts reported by a few Canadian carriers. Whenever an iPhone user sends a text message to an Android user, weird question marks join the text. Consumers have reported their concerns on Reddit’s Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, and Koodo subreddits.
Apple announced to bring RCS support for iPhone models to enhance texting across platforms. RCS messaging is way more secure than the conventional SMS and MMS protocol. However, the company has yet to push the new feature to iPhone users on the Stable channel.

You can temporarily address the problem by adding a special character like ‘&’ or an emoji. AndroidPolice reports it to be a proven solution to the question marks issue in texts. We expect the weird bug will be addressed soon and users will have a better texting experience.
