Google Pixel March 2024 update improves Camera, Display, UI and more

It’s a majestic Monday for Google Pixel smartphone users! As expected, Google started rolling out the March 2024 update to Pixel devices, bringing the latest security fixes, enhancements, and a Feature Drop.

Google has started releasing the March 2024 software to Pixel devices. It is gradually expanding to eligible models across the world. The software improves Bluetooth and WiFi, Camera, Display and Graphics, UI and more.

The update is rolling out to Pixel 5a 5G too alongside the Pixel 6/6 Pro, Pixel 7/7 Pro, Pixel 8/8Pro, Pixel 6a and 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. You can check the latest build versions for eligible models below:

Google may have availed the March update to your Pixel handset. If you haven’t got a notification, force update through Settings -> System -> Software updates -> System update.

Google is rolling out its May 2025 software update for Pixel devices, making things smoother for phones, tablets, and the Pixel Watch app. This update is all about fixing bugs and adding a small but nice change for Pixel Watch users. It’s available for devices running Android 15, like the Pixel 6, 7, 8, 9 series, and Pixel Tablet. The rollout started on May 7, 2025, and will reach devices over the next week, depending on your carrier.

For Pixel phones and tablets, the update tackles three key issues: better microphone recording, improved Bluetooth pairing, and general performance tweaks. It also includes 28 security fixes, with one possibly being targeted by hackers, so updating soon is a good idea. If you have a Pixel 6 or 8, note that this update locks the bootloader, meaning you can’t go back to older software versions.

On the Pixel Watch side, there’s no major device update this month, but the Pixel Watch app on Android now has a light theme option. This gives the app a brighter, cleaner look, making it easier to use in different lighting.

New Pixel camera panorama tips and NotebookLM app launch

Google recently shared tips to help users make the most of the new Panorama mode in the Pixel 9 series Camera app. This feature lets you capture wide, stunning scenes. To get great results, hold your phone steady and move it slowly while taking the shot.

Google suggests practicing in open spaces to avoid blurry images. You can also use the vertical Panorama option for tall subjects like buildings or trees, a handy addition for creative photos. For best results, lock the exposure before starting to keep lighting consistent across the panorama.

In other news, Google unveiled the NotebookLM app for Android and iPhone, set to launch in beta around May 20, 2025, during I/O 2025. This app, previously a website, helps users organize notes and research. It has a simple design with tabs for recent and shared notebooks, plus a button to create new ones.

You can upload PDFs, web links, or YouTube videos, and even share content directly from other apps. The app offers an Audio Overview feature, letting you listen to summaries offline with a fun waveform display. Users can ask questions to AI hosts for deeper insights.

Both the Panorama mode and NotebookLM app show Google’s focus on making tools user-friendly and creative.
