Wear OS 4 intros new Text-to-speech (TTS) engine

Wear OS 4 introduces a new text-to-speech (TTS) engine, which is faster, more performant, and reliable. Google says it has been “tuned to be performant and reliable on low-memory devices,” with 2 GB being the norm nowadays across the latest Pixel and Galaxy Watch.
The new text-to-speech engine on Wear OS uses decreased prosody ML models to bring faster synthesis to Wear OS devices. Use cases for Wear OS’s text-to-speech can range from accessibility services, coaching cues for exercise apps, navigation cues, and reading aloud incoming alerts.
Text-to-speech turns text into natural-sounding speech across over 50 languages powered by Google’s machine learning (ML) technology. Use cases for Wear OS’s text-to-speech can range from accessibility services, coaching cues for exercise apps, navigation cues, and reading aloud incoming alerts.

Android 16 brings a fresh design, stronger security, and more smart features

Google is getting ready to roll out Android 16 in June 2025, and it’s shaping up to be a major update. The new version will not only give Android a fresh look, but it also brings useful features focused on design, security, and accessibility.
One big change is in the Quick Settings panel. Google is testing a new design that spreads the icons across three pages instead of cramming them into one. This should make it easier to find and use important controls like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and brightness. The updated layout also includes a large clock and date at the top for better readability.
Security is getting a serious upgrade too. Android 16 adds an “intrusion detection” feature that can log if someone tries to unlock your device without your permission. These records can be shared with law enforcement if needed. Another useful tool is the Remote Lock feature. If your phone gets lost or stolen, you’ll be able to lock it remotely using just your phone number and a security question—no Google password needed.
Android 16 also improves support for people with disabilities, adding better text-to-speech options and clearer visuals.
On the smartwatch side, Google is working on Wear OS 6. It’s expected to launch alongside Android 16 and will match the new design style, offering better navigation and accessibility for smartwatches too.
With Android 16 and Wear OS 6, Google is aiming to make your devices look better, work smarter, and stay more secure—all at the same time.

Google Pixel phone and watch update for May 2025 brings fixes and a fresh app look

Google is rolling out its May 2025 software update for Pixel devices, making things smoother for phones, tablets, and the Pixel Watch app. This update is all about fixing bugs and adding a small but nice change for Pixel Watch users. It’s available for devices running Android 15, like the Pixel 6, 7, 8, 9 series, and Pixel Tablet. The rollout started on May 7, 2025, and will reach devices over the next week, depending on your carrier.
For Pixel phones and tablets, the update tackles three key issues: better microphone recording, improved Bluetooth pairing, and general performance tweaks. It also includes 28 security fixes, with one possibly being targeted by hackers, so updating soon is a good idea. If you have a Pixel 6 or 8, note that this update locks the bootloader, meaning you can’t go back to older software versions.
On the Pixel Watch side, there’s no major device update this month, but the Pixel Watch app on Android now has a light theme option. This gives the app a brighter, cleaner look, making it easier to use in different lighting.
Google might share more about Wear OS at I/O 2025, but for now, the app’s new style is a welcome touch. To get the update, check your device settings. Pixel users can expect a notification soon, but you can also manually check for it. Stay updated for a better, safer experience.
Simple touch lock update for Pixel Watch on Wear OS 5.1

Google’s Pixel Watch got a fresh update with Wear OS 5.1, tweaking how the Touch Lock feature works. This tool stops unwanted screen taps when the watch is wet, like during a swim, and it’s now acting a bit differently.
In the past, enabling Touch Lock would immediately stop the screen from responding to touches. You could still use the watch’s buttons or crown to move around, but unlocking required entering a PIN or pattern. This could feel clunky, especially with a wet screen or in a hurry.
Now, with Wear OS 5.1, Touch Lock doesn’t freeze the screen right away. You can use the watch as usual until the display turns off. Once it’s off, the screen won’t respond to touches until you unlock it with your PIN or pattern. This change makes it smoother to use the watch during activities, preventing accidental taps when the screen is dark.
Google hasn’t said if this was planned or a bug, leaving users guessing. Some might like the new flow for its ease, while others may prefer the old instant lock for extra safety. The update, rolled out in April 2025 for Pixel Watch 1, 2, and 3, also tackles issues like slow notifications and watch face glitches.
