Google pulls third-party apps, clock faces from Fitbit watches in EU
Fitbit watches sold in the European Union will lose access to third-party apps and Clock Faces. Google announced that third-party apps and watch faces will no longer be available on Fitbit wearable products.
Google revealed through the support page that third-party apps and Clock Faces are going away from Fitbit watches in the European Union, with the change scheduled to take effect sometime in June 2024.
It is revealed that the Fitbit App Gallery will purge third-party apps and clock faces for users in the European Economic Area. As a result, consumers won’t be able to proceed with new downloads and installs.
Pay attention, consumers residing outside the EU will have no impact from this change. They will continue to download and install third-party applications plus Clock Faces the same way they are doing already.
The company explains (via 9to5Google):
- Following a careful assessment of the impact of new regulatory requirements, we have made the decision to remove third-party apps and clocks from the Fitbit app gallery for users in the European Economic Area in June 2024. You can continue to download and install third-party apps until that date. Afterwards, you’ll have access to a selection of Fitbit and Google apps. Users in other countries will not be impacted.
Affected Fitbit devices include:
- Fitbit Sense 2
- Fitbit Versa 4
- Fitbit Sense
- Fitbit Versa 3
- Fitbit Versa 2
- Fitbit Versa Lite
- Fitbit Versa
- Fitbit Ionic
