New update for Pixel Buds Pro 2: Version 3.144
Yesterday, Google began sending out a new update for the Pixel Buds Pro 2, bringing the firmware to version 3.144. This update introduces some cool new features for the earbuds.
One of the new additions is a “Bud Return” sound. This is a small, soft chime that plays when you correctly put the earbuds back into their case. It’s helpful because sometimes you might put them in the wrong spot, and before this update, you’d only know something was wrong when you tried to close the case and it wouldn’t shut properly. Now, this sound lets you know they’re in the right place. Just like other alert sounds for charging, low battery, or pairing issues, you can turn this one off if you don’t like it, but it’s pretty subtle.
Another feature that’s been spotted is a new “Surroundings” slider in the app for the Pixel Buds Pro 2. This slider is found at the bottom of the Device details page, close to the Audio switch. It looks like it could adjust how much background noise you hear through your earbuds, though it’s not working yet according to our sources. The accompanying icon changes as you move the slider, which is pretty neat.
Google hasn’t given us a full list of what’s changed with this update, but they probably fixed some bugs too. Right now, more people are getting this update. To check if it’s available for your earbuds, go to More settings > Firmware update in your app. You can also check from the web app.
The update will download when you next use your earbuds with a Pixel or any Android device that’s version 6.0 or higher. It takes around 10 minutes to download, and you can still use your earbuds while it’s happening. Once they have enough charge, the update will start installing the next time you put your earbuds in the charging case, which also takes about 10 minutes.
