The latest update for the Pixel Buds Pro 2, version 3.144, began rolling out on Monday, and Google has now shared the official details about what’s new. On Wednesday, Google announced, “The firmware update release_3.144 is now ready.” This update enhances the earbuds’ firmware and improves audio quality.

One new feature Google mentioned is the small chime that sounds when you put your earbuds back into their case correctly for charging. This sound helps confirm that the earbuds are aligned properly. If you find this chime annoying, you can turn it off.

Just go into the Pixel Buds app’s settings (check that you have the latest version, which was updated in early January on the Play Store), click on “More settings,” then “Case Sounds,” where you can also adjust other notifications like when charging begins, low battery alerts, successful pairing, or errors.

Here’s how you can update your Pixel Buds Pro 2:

  • Automatic Updates: If you have automatic updates enabled, the update will download the next time you connect your earbuds to a Pixel phone or any Android device with version 6.0 or higher. You can continue using your earbuds during the update, which takes about 10 minutes, or it will start when you next place them in the case with enough battery.
  • Manual Updates: If you’ve turned off automatic updates, you can start the download manually from your phone once it’s available. This process takes around 15 minutes.
  • Web Update: You can also update through Google’s website even if your phone isn’t connected. Just go to mypixelbuds.google.com to begin the update process.

Make sure both your earbuds and the charging case are updated to version 3.144 to enjoy all the new enhancements.
