New Gemini 2.0 Flash now available in the Gemini app
Google has just released the stable version of Gemini 2.0 Flash for everyone using the Gemini app. This update was first tested last month, and now it’s ready for everyone to use.
In the app, Gemini 2.0 Flash is labeled as the tool “For everyday tasks.” If you’re a regular user, you can now upload images but won’t have access to files or Google Drive. However, if you’re a premium user with Gemini Advanced, you still get perks like handling up to 1,500 pages of file uploads with a 1 million token context window. You also get early access to cool features like Deep Research and Gems.
For those who’ve been using previous versions, note that the names have changed a bit. What was once “Get everyday help” (1.5 Flash) and “Tackle complex tasks” (1.5 Pro) are now just called “Previous model.” These will stick around for a few more weeks so you can wrap up any ongoing conversations.
Google has boasted that Gemini 2.0 Flash is better than the 1.5 Pro version in areas like coding, accuracy, math, and logical thinking, and it does all this twice as fast. This new model is designed to be your go-to for everyday tasks like brainstorming, learning, or writing.
On another note, Google has also updated the image creation part of Gemini with the latest Imagen 3 technology. This upgrade means better detail, texture, and precision in following your creative instructions.
Gemini 2.0 Flash is now rolling out to both the web and mobile versions of the Gemini app. So far, it’s mostly appearing on the web, especially as of late Thursday afternoon (PT).
