How to turn off Gemini AI in Google Workspace? You Might Need Help From Support

Google Workspace admins are facing a challenge when it comes to turning off the new Gemini AI features that have been automatically added to their accounts.

Back in mid-January, Google decided to roll out these AI tools across various applications like Gmail, Drive, Meet, and more, and they even raised the price of Workspace. Here’s what you get with Gemini:

  • Gmail: A sidebar for questions and answers, writing help, smart replies, and summaries.
  • Drive: A helpful sidebar.
  • Docs: Similar sidebar, plus tools to help with writing and creating content.
  • Sheets: Sidebar, organization help, and better data filling.
  • Slides: Sidebar, image creation, and background removal.
  • Meet: Automatic note-taking, background creation, and improved audio-visual effects.
  • Chat: A sidebar for assistance.

While these features can be pretty handy, not everyone wants them, which can be annoying since there’s no simple way to turn them off for most admins. According to Google’s own support pages, only those with “Enterprise Standard” or “Enterprise Plus” accounts have the control to manage these features.

Many admins have noticed that even on the admin dashboard, there’s no straightforward option to disable Gemini. Even some enterprise users report missing these controls.

The workaround? You might need to chat with Google’s support team. They have the power to unlock these settings for you, even if you don’t have an enterprise account. Once enabled, you can then turn off Gemini through the admin console.

Interestingly, as Google gears up for the 2025 Super Bowl, they plan on showcasing these very Gemini features, making them more visible than ever. So, if you’re looking to customize your Google Workspace by turning off these AI features, remember, a conversation with support might be your first step.
