New app hints at tracking feature for Pixel Watch 3

Google might be developing a new tracking app for its Wear OS watches, hinted at in an advertisement for the Pixel Watch 3.

The video titled “Meet Google Pixel Watch 3 | Bigger Screen, Bigger Steps” shows off six different app screens on the watch. Among the usual apps like music controls, fitness tracking with Fitbit, and Google Maps, there’s something new. With the Pixel Watch 3, users can now control their TV remotely and check live feeds from their Nest Doorbell.

What caught everyone’s eye is the sixth screen, which looks like a new way to find lost devices. It displays the device’s name, the last time it was seen (like “10/4 11:03 AM”), a map with a phone icon, and options for checking battery life or making the device play a sound to help locate it. Interestingly, it uses a Wi-Fi icon for the sound feature.

From the start, the Pixel Watch series has included a “Find My Phone” option in its quick settings, allowing you to make your phone ring even if it’s on silent or vibrate. This new feature might just be an upgrade of that, expanding to locate other devices or items.

Adding this tracking app to Wear OS could be a game-changer for finding lost items like earbuds or tags. It would provide an easy way for all Wear OS watches to use this feature soon.

The video was originally released five months back during the Pixel Watch 3 announcement but was only noticed recently on Reddit. This could either be part of a future software update for the Pixel Watch or a highlight feature when the next model hits the market.
