Easy dark mode for websites on your iPhone Google app

The Google app on iPhones now has an easy way to make websites dark. This new feature, called “Auto Dark Mode,” was tested last year and is now available for everyone.

When you use the Google app to look up things or check out the Discover feed, you’ll see pages in its own little browser. This browser has a place to type in website addresses, can handle multiple tabs, and even reads text out loud for you.

Now, if you find a website that doesn’t have its own dark theme, you can switch it to dark mode yourself. Just find the three dots at the top right of the screen, tap them, and select “Turn on Auto Dark Mode” from the list. You can turn it off just as easily if you don’t like it.

Google warns that how well this works might change from one website to another, but they’ve been trying it out since June, and it seems to work pretty well. If you’ve been part of the testing, you might need to switch back to the regular version to see this new feature.

This Auto Dark Mode comes with version 354.0 of the Google app for iPhone users.

Also, Google has decided to take out the chat feature called Gemini from directly inside the app. Before, there was a choice between “Search” and “Gemini” at the top of the app. But since the Gemini app came out in November, Google has been nudging everyone to use that instead. The option to keep using the old way in the Google app is gone now. Plus, the Gemini part in the Google app wasn’t getting updates, making the separate Gemini app a better choice with more features like Gemini Live.
