Easy guide to deleting messages in Google Messages

Google Messages is getting ready to let you take back messages you’ve sent, making your chats cleaner and less awkward. Before, if you wanted to delete a message, you could only remove it from your own phone. But with the new update, you can delete it for everyone involved in the chat. This feature comes from the Universal Profile 2.7 update, which now allows users to edit, recall, or delete messages that they’ve sent.

In the latest beta version of Google Messages, there are new options like:

  • Delete for Me – This lets you remove the message just from your own view.
  • Delete for Everyone – With this, you can make the message disappear from everyone’s devices, but only if they’re using the latest version of the app.

If someone deletes a message, you’ll see a note in the chat saying:

  • “You deleted a message” if you did the deleting.
  • “Message deleted by its author” if someone else did.
  • “Sender attempted to delete a message” if the message couldn’t be deleted for some reason, like if someone hasn’t updated their app.

This update also brings other cool features like directly replying to messages and reacting with custom emojis, which should work smoothly between Android and iOS devices. You’ll also be able to undo a message right after sending it and edit messages directly in the app.

It’s not known exactly when all these features will be available for everyone to use. This information comes from looking into the app’s code, thanks to tools like JEB Decompiler, which help us understand what’s new before it’s officially released.
