New features coming to the Gemini app

The Gemini app for Android and iOS is now rolling out two exciting new features: Quick Thinking and Pro Thinking. These updates are available for all users, with some advanced features exclusive to paid subscribers.

Quick Thinking is Google’s innovative way of showing how it thinks. Introduced in December with an update in January, it builds on the speed and efficiency of the original Quick model. When you use this feature, you can see the app break down your query into simple steps:

• Show Thinking: Displays the thought process.
• Understand the Question: Defines what the question is really about.
• Consider Different Views: Looks at the question from various angles.
• Brainstorm Ideas: Generates key points and related questions.
• Organize the Answer: Structures the response logically.
• Refine the Answer: Adds details and clarifications.
• Add Nuance: Includes exceptions and subtleties.
• Final Check: Reviews and polishes the response.

On your phone, this process is shown in a “Thoughts” section before the actual “Response.”

The app updates in real-time, letting you see how each answer is formed. If you want, you can hide this by tapping an arrow. Remember, this feature doesn’t have access to live data or all Gemini capabilities yet.

Quick Thinking is now available for everyone, and we’re seeing it on many Android devices. Google also introduced a version that works with other Google services like YouTube, Maps, and Search, enhancing how you can reason across these apps.

For those with a paid subscription, Pro Thinking offers even deeper insights and better understanding of general knowledge. It’s perfect for handling complex tasks or coding queries. With a context window of 1 million tokens for subscribers and 2 million for developers via API, this model is still in its experimental phase without real-time info access.

Once fully rolled out, the Gemini app will let you choose from:

• Quick: For simple daily tasks.
• Quick Thinking: For detailed, step-by-step reasoning.
• Quick Thinking with Apps: Enhances reasoning with Google services.
• Pro Thinking: For in-depth or complex tasks.
• Deep Research: For comprehensive answers (using the 1.5 Pro model).
• Older Models: Including 1.5 Pro and 1.5 Quick for continuity.

This update is shaping up to make the Gemini app a more powerful tool for understanding and interaction.
