YouTube Music might change how you switch between songs and videos
Since 2019, YouTube Music has allowed users to switch between songs and videos easily with a feature at the top of the Now Playing screen. This feature was particularly handy for Premium and Music Premium subscribers who wanted to enjoy music videos seamlessly.
The switch has always looked like a small pill at the top, but now, YouTube Music is experimenting with a new look on Android. Instead of having the switch at the top, they’re thinking about moving it down to where other actions like liking a song, commenting, or saving it are listed. The cool thing is, that you’ll still be able to switch from audio to video without losing your place in the song.
In this new setup, after you like or dislike a song, comment, or save it, you’ll see the “Video” option next to an icon. This means that options like “Share” might not fit on the screen anymore and could be moved out of view, similar to what happens with “Download” and “Radio”.
The space at the top of the screen, where the switch used to be, now looks a bit empty, making the “Cast” button seem a little out of place all by itself.
This change comes while YouTube Music is still working on a broader update to the Now Playing screen which was first seen back in November. The new design places the play controls right after the song title and artist, followed by a new way to scrub through the song, and finally, the action buttons at the bottom. Moving these controls down makes it easier to use the app with one hand. Although some users have seen this new look for a few weeks, it hasn’t been rolled out to everyone yet.
