Gboard’s voice typing just got even better
Gboard, the keyboard app by Google, is making its voice typing even more useful. Soon, you could use your voice not only to type but also to edit what you’ve written.
Gboard has a feature called Assistant Voice Typing, where you can speak to write messages, delete words, clear drafts, undo edits, insert emojis, and even send messages. On newer Pixel phones, like the Pixel 8 series, you can also use voice commands to fix errors in your text.
Now, Google is planning to expand this feature so you can rewrite your text just by talking.
We found clues about this new update in the latest Gboard beta version for Android (version 15.0.03.727871796). The screenshots show new voice commands that let you rewrite your text. You can choose to make your message sound more formal or casual, expand or shorten it, or even make it more playful by adding emojis in place of some words.
These new “Rewrite” commands aren’t working yet in the current version, but they should be available in an upcoming update. We think Google might introduce this with the next Pixel software update in March. We’ll keep watching for more news and will update this article when we know more.
