Google Updates: Better song search, unnecessary changes in Messages, and improved Circle to Search

Smartphones are becoming more helpful every day, solving problems that used to be tough. Can’t remember a song you heard? No worries, Google’s Android app has a tool for that. But it looks like Google is about to make it even better.

Song Search Gets a Memory

Right now, when you use Google’s song search, it listens to your music, identifies it, and then forgets the whole thing. But in the latest beta version of the Google app (16.5.33.sa.arm64), there are signs that this could change. The app seems to be working on adding a search history. We’ve seen some text hints suggesting that soon, you might be able to see your past song searches, possibly with song details, album art, and when you searched for them. The interface for this isn’t complete yet, but it looks like Google is moving towards making song searches more memorable.

Google Messages Changes for Dual-SIM Users

Google Messages is tweaking how dual-SIM users send texts. Until now, you could easily switch SIMs for different contacts right from the message box. But Google is moving this option. Now, you’ll have to go into the contact’s details to change the SIM, which adds an extra step. This change is seen in the newest beta version (20250209_01_RC00.phone.openbeta_dynamic). Although you can still set a default SIM for all messages, this new setup feels less convenient.

Circle to Search Enhanced Vibration

Circle to Search on Android has gotten a small but useful update. When you long-press to activate it, you’ll feel a stronger, longer vibration, making it clear you’ve started the search. This not only confirms you’ve activated the feature but also gives you time to cancel if needed. This update is rolling out with Google app version 16.4.36 on Pixel devices, and should soon reach other phones.

The interface for Circle to Search has also been simplified, grouping search tools into one easy-to-use panel. Plus, it now recognizes phone numbers, emails, and links for quick actions, and provides more detailed AI responses for queries about places, images, or objects.

These updates show Google continuously refining its apps to make them more user-friendly and efficient. Keep an eye out for these changes in your next update.
