Google TV updates its free channels again

Google TV has changed its collection of free streaming channels once more. Here’s a simple breakdown of what’s new and what’s gone. As of early 2025, Google TV’s Freeplay had a good collection of over 170 free channels. They added some channels around the holiday time last year, but now they’ve taken a few away. This month, Google TV made another update. They took out three channels but brought back two that were missing earlier.

The channels that were removed are:

  • Xumo Holiday Movies: A channel all about holiday films.
  • Xumo Holiday Classics: Full of classic holiday shows and movies.
  • Xumo Christian Christmas: Focused on Christian-themed Christmas content.

These were holiday channels, so it wasn’t a big surprise they would leave, but it was a bit unexpected they lasted until mid-February.

On the positive side, Google TV brought back:

  • OutTV Proud: This channel supports and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community with diverse content.
  • Shades of Black: A channel dedicated to Black entertainment, showcasing movies, series, and more.

Unfortunately, the other channels that disappeared from Freeplay earlier in February haven’t made a comeback yet. So, while Google TV took away some holiday fun, they’ve also made sure to return some beloved channels to keep viewers entertained. Keep an eye out for more updates as Google TV continues to tweak its channel lineup.
