Google Contacts updates sync info and account options on Android

Google Contacts on Android recently got a small but helpful update. It now clearly shows your backup and sync details and adjusts the account menu for easier use. In the Organize tab, a new box sits at the top. It tells you how many contacts are linked to your Google Account, showing your email address on the first line. Next to it, there’s a “Last sync” note with a little cloud symbol.

If you tap the info icon in the corner, it explains: “Contacts saved in your Google Account sync automatically to this device. You can access them anywhere you log in, like on contacts.google.com, across Google services.” Below this box, there’s a new option called “Google Contacts sync settings: Manage how contacts save and sync.” Clicking it takes you to a familiar settings page from Google Play services.

Here, you can switch “Google Contacts sync” on or off. Before this update, you’d find this in the app’s settings, but now it’s more front and center. The account menu also got a tweak. It still shows the “Last sync” info, but the list of all signed-in accounts isn’t fully visible anymore. You need to tap an arrow to see them. This might feel less handy for some, though you can still switch accounts fast by swiping up or down on the home screen.

This update comes with version 4.49 of Google Contacts for Android. It’s a simple change, but it makes checking sync status and managing accounts a bit smoother.
