Google brings many Pixel Watch 2 features to Pixel Watch [Wear OS]

Google officially announced the March 2024 Pixel Feature Drop. Apart from Pixel phones, Google is also bringing many advanced features from the Pixel Watch 2 to the first-gen Pixel Watch.
Following the March 2024 Feature Drop, Google Pixel Watch users will be able to track their workouts with even more options, Fitbit Relax app guides, and public transit directions.
Track your workouts with even more options
Thanks to the Pace Training feature, you can use your Pixel Watch to set a goal pace during an exercise to know when you are within your target, thanks to its built-in GPS and motion sensors.
If heart rate zones are your goal, you can now use Heart Zone Training on your first-gen Pixel Watch to monitor the time you spend in each heart rate zone, based on your resting heart rate and fitness levels.
- You can also set personal targets and turn on haptic notifications and voice alerts when you move from one heart rate zone to another.
- With a completely redesigned workouts UI, you can easily see your workout stats at a glance for pace and heart rate so you can stay focused and on track.
The update also brings auto-start and auto-stop to your first-gen Pixel Watch. Your Pixel Watch will now automatically start and stop your workouts directly from your wrist when it detects the activity.
Fitbit Relax
You can now use the Fitbit Relax app on the first-gen Pixel Watch to guide you through a breathing exercise right on your wrist. You can track how many moments of mindfulness you’ve completed over time directly through the app.

Public transit directions
Google Maps on Wear OS can now give you public transit directions on your Pixel Watch. You’ll see different transit options, real-time departure times and a compass-enabled map view to guide you to your destination.

Google Pixel phone and watch update for May 2025 brings fixes and a fresh app look

Google is rolling out its May 2025 software update for Pixel devices, making things smoother for phones, tablets, and the Pixel Watch app. This update is all about fixing bugs and adding a small but nice change for Pixel Watch users. It’s available for devices running Android 15, like the Pixel 6, 7, 8, 9 series, and Pixel Tablet. The rollout started on May 7, 2025, and will reach devices over the next week, depending on your carrier.
For Pixel phones and tablets, the update tackles three key issues: better microphone recording, improved Bluetooth pairing, and general performance tweaks. It also includes 28 security fixes, with one possibly being targeted by hackers, so updating soon is a good idea. If you have a Pixel 6 or 8, note that this update locks the bootloader, meaning you can’t go back to older software versions.
On the Pixel Watch side, there’s no major device update this month, but the Pixel Watch app on Android now has a light theme option. This gives the app a brighter, cleaner look, making it easier to use in different lighting.
Google might share more about Wear OS at I/O 2025, but for now, the app’s new style is a welcome touch. To get the update, check your device settings. Pixel users can expect a notification soon, but you can also manually check for it. Stay updated for a better, safer experience.
Simple touch lock update for Pixel Watch on Wear OS 5.1

Google’s Pixel Watch got a fresh update with Wear OS 5.1, tweaking how the Touch Lock feature works. This tool stops unwanted screen taps when the watch is wet, like during a swim, and it’s now acting a bit differently.
In the past, enabling Touch Lock would immediately stop the screen from responding to touches. You could still use the watch’s buttons or crown to move around, but unlocking required entering a PIN or pattern. This could feel clunky, especially with a wet screen or in a hurry.
Now, with Wear OS 5.1, Touch Lock doesn’t freeze the screen right away. You can use the watch as usual until the display turns off. Once it’s off, the screen won’t respond to touches until you unlock it with your PIN or pattern. This change makes it smoother to use the watch during activities, preventing accidental taps when the screen is dark.
Google hasn’t said if this was planned or a bug, leaving users guessing. Some might like the new flow for its ease, while others may prefer the old instant lock for extra safety. The update, rolled out in April 2025 for Pixel Watch 1, 2, and 3, also tackles issues like slow notifications and watch face glitches.

Google Discover now shows social media posts and Pixel Watch gets a useful phone feature

Google is updating some of its products with new features that make things more helpful for users. First, the Google Discover feed is now starting to show posts and accounts from social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Some users are seeing suggested posts from public figures, journalists, and creators directly in their Discover feed.
These posts appear as cards with the username, profile picture, and social media label. Google says it aims to make content more personalized and relevant. However, it looks like this feature is still being tested, and not everyone has it yet.
At the same time, Google is adding a small but helpful feature to the Pixel Watch. A new “Ring your phone” option has appeared in the Personal Safety app on Pixel phones. This lets users make their phone ring using the Pixel Watch, making it easier to find the phone if it’s lost nearby. The feature was spotted in version 2024.04.08.621107892.2 of the Personal Safety app and might roll out more widely soon.
These updates show how Google is continuing to connect its apps, devices, and services to make them work better together. Whether you’re looking for trending content or trying to find your phone, Google is making small changes that can make a big difference in daily use.
