Google Pixel 8a will be introduced at I/O 2024 next month. High-resolution images leaked by tipster Evleaks showcase the upcoming Google Pixel 8a in all its glory featuring four vibrant color options.

Thanks to previous leaks and hands-on shots, we have pretty much idea of the Pixel 8a design language. The leaked images also give us the cleanest look at the curve and bezels of the device.

Over its recent predecessors, the smartphone is transforming its design identity, becoming similar to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. The bottom bezel is much thicker than the top bezel, which Google may have opted to differentiate.

Google is putting focus on its Pixel smartphone business. As Samsung tried switching its default search engine to Microsoft’s Bing, Google has to evolve its Pixel lineup so its Android and Play Services business will continue to grow.

The Pixel 8a will be a hit in the mid-range smartphone market in 2024. It will give tough competition to Samsung’s Galaxy S23 FE and Apple’s forthcoming iPhone SE 4, which is expected to launch early next year. Specs-wise, Google is said to be bringing significant changes.

The Pixel 8a will have a larger battery and faster charging than the Pixel 7a. The phone will also feature an upgraded display, offering up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1400 nits peak brightness. However, the device’s price could be increased by 10% in certain markets.

Google Pixel Launcher update brings new search results design

Published

on

Google Pixel 8 Pro

Google released a new update to the Pixel Launcher app, bringing a small redesign to the search results page. Following the update, Pixel smartphone and tablet users may notice web and local (app) search results a bit more uniform.

The search results page added a categorization option. Results from the web/internet will be displayed under “Web Search.” The label is also attached to the next page, which lists many more options like related Settings and a landing page under the Settings app.

Pixel Launcher update also implements text instead of icons, making the view clean further. Apart from Web Search, the Launcher’s search results page has labels like the Google Play Store, Settings, Search in apps, Contacts, Pixel Tips, etc.

The addition of a category/label makes it easier to go for things searched even more quickly. It reduces unusual taps across the user interface, such as searching for an app will display its Play Store toggle, rather than a Play Store header and the app’s search query under the Play Store.

Android 15 upgrades Pixel’s volume control function

Android 15 Volume Panel

Android 15 brings a significant upgrade to Pixel’s volume control function. Last week, Google released the Beta 2 update for Pixel smartphones and tablets. Due to a severe bug in the Private Space feature, the company yesterday pushed Beta 2.1 firmware.

The latest Android 15 update introduces easy volume controls for speaker groups and other Cast devices on Pixel phones. Google reportedly ditched this functionality back in 2021 with Android 12, which is making a comeback with the next Android version.

Post Android 15 Beta 2.1, when using multiple Cast devices in a speaker group, the Pixel’s volume controls work to adjust the volume of those connected devices. It’s unclear exactly what’s changed, but Google appears to have found a solution to bypass the legal issue that emerged in the past.

It’s worth noting that the second Beta of Android 15 introduced a redesigned volume panel on Pixel devices. Not only Google, but all Android phones that use stock OS will benefit from this redesigned panel. You may also get to see some parts of the redesign on your phone’s custom skin.

Google will release more Beta updates of the Android 15 operating system. The testing program is slated to run until July this year, with October may be the official release month. Last year, Pixel 8 debut also commenced the stable Android 14 rollout for Pixel devices.
